'Jing-Mei Character Analysis\r'
'Amy Tanââ¬â¢s concise story ââ¬Å"Two Kindsââ¬Â illustrates a young daughters dispute with her highly opinionated fix and finding her take bearing. Jing-Meiââ¬â¢s nonplus continually enforces Jing-Met to carry turn up tasks the way she wants her to, her way. Therefore Jing-Mei is unable to grow as her own person and carry out the choices she wants to. throughout Jing-Meiââ¬â¢s journey she begins to develop negative thoughts of herself and displays the attributes of insecurity, possession and cruelty.Jing-Meiââ¬â¢s stubbornness encourages her to believe her drive is existence unfair and cruel, ââ¬Å"when [her] mother had told [her] this, [she] felt as though [sheââ¬â¢s] been sent to hell. ââ¬Â When in realisticity, all her mother is doing is directing her so she wonââ¬â¢t have to go through the hardships she herself had gone through (Page 5). Jing-Mei has no relish to cooperate with her mother. She fights with her every way she can, determined to rule out her motherââ¬â¢s dreams of her becoming successful, Jing-Mei neglects her studies as fountainhead as the piano.Jing-Mei believes her mother is trying to change her, Jing-Mei states ââ¬Å"I wonââ¬â¢t let her change meââ¬Â¦ I wonââ¬â¢t be what Iââ¬â¢m notââ¬Â¦Ã¢â¬Â despite her motherââ¬â¢s real intentions of her becoming successful (Page 3). Jing-Mei feels she must reject her mother in order to find herself ââ¬Å"right thus and there, [she] was determined to put a stop to her preposterous pride. ââ¬Â however, in doing so, she is rejecting her heritage and identity (Page 7).Suyuan Wooââ¬â¢s constant criticism hands Jing-Mei the idea of neediness of affection, which results in Jing-Meiââ¬â¢s insecurity. Suyuanââ¬â¢s values of family obedience, cover version of unnecessary emotions, and criticism as expressions of live oppose with Jing-Meiââ¬â¢s American ideas of independence, self-esteem and open expressions of love guide Jing-Meià ¢â¬â¢s belief of never fulfilling her motherââ¬â¢s expectations. Therefore, Jing-Mei constantly puts herself down ââ¬Å"[she] looked in the reflectââ¬Â¦ [she] began to cry, such a sad ugly girl! due to misunderstanding her motherââ¬â¢s intentions (Page 3). Her motherââ¬â¢s high expectations and criticism are her way of expressing love and faith in her daughter. Jing-Mei misunderstands her motherââ¬â¢s actions which lead her to the conclusion that she will ââ¬Å"never be the kind of daughter [her mother] wants her to beââ¬Â and leads her to the question of ââ¬Å" wherefore donââ¬â¢t you like me the way I am? I am not a genius! ââ¬Â (Page 10,5).\r\n'
